Melitta One:One Coffee Maker Review

The Melitta One:One coffee maker feels solid and sturdy.
The Melitta One:One is easy to open, refill and place coffee pods in. The parts fit well. The buttons are easy to push and responsive. The instructions on priming the coffee maker were a bit confusing -- it was unclear how many buttons to push to get it to prime, and how much water should go to go through before considering the unit "primed."
Melitta One:One coffee makers use coffee pods they call Java-Pods. They are single-serving size and my unit came with a sampler of 3 Java-Pods and 3 Teapods, in a variety of flavors. Both are available on
with a box of 18 pods selling from $4.95 (price varies a bit by flavor) and an 18 pack of tea pods selling for $4.99.
The reservoir is removable and the maximum water level (about 24 ounces) is well marked and visible from the outside. There's a lid on the reservoir that you can fill through without having to remove it. There are no timer features. The water heats up in about 1.5 minutes - nice and quick.
While Melitta recommends using only their java-pods, you can use any pods that are the correct size. I prefer a different brand of coffee, but the machine did a great job on the brewing. It also makes a very nice cup of tea. The water seemed to be evenly distributed and it pre-saturates the pod to help get the best brew. The drip seems quick, but the resulting coffee tastes great. No grounds escaped the pod.
With the grounds tucked into the pod, the Melitta One:One stays really neat. Parts that need to be removed for the occasional cleaning come out very easily and go back together just as quickly.
The Melitta One:One is compact, sleek and, depending on color, can be discrete or a showpiece. It fits well on the counter. The unit's look is modern and stylized. Some colors look more "timeless" than others (the black and the red, for example) but the Kiwi is very fun, too.
